Old Oak Barn Cwmpalis, St Clears, Carmarthenshire, West Wales
Now with Broadband Internet Wireless Access - FOC. Old Oak Barn offers unique self catering accommodation for up to 5 in a secluded woodland valley. It is situated in West Carmarthenshire near the Pembrokeshire border only 10 minutes off the main A40. The barn has been renovated and restored in 2004 to provide a very high standard of accommodation. The main features are its very spacious stone patio adjoining the building as well as the interior with plain white walls and wooden features many of which came from timber grown at Cwmpalis. Underfloor heating provides an especially comfortable warmth all year round and enables the beautifully handcrafted alder floor to be seen at its best.
The kitchen is very well equipped and contains all you will need for your holiday or short break. Two bedrooms simply furnished are situated adjacent to the large main living room which measures 6 x 5 metres. We anticipate opening early in 2005 and already have summer bookings. We welcome those wanting short breaks throughout the year - minimum of 2 nights. And we also especially welcome children. This part of Carmarthenshire is easily accessible from the M4 being approximately 90 minutes from the Severn Bridge.
Old Oak Barn is surrounded by fields and woodland and guests have the use of the old cabin in the woods but facilities are primitive - you can just see the sea at Laugharne from this spot in the woods.
The local area is well known for its green pastures and wooded valleys as well as its castles and beautiful sandy beaches.
The two main rivers in the county are the Teifi and the Tywi and coracles can still be seen in both. We are only 30 minutes from the Preselli Hills.
This part of Wales is steeped in history and visitors may want to visit Laugharne where Dylan Thomas lived.
The beautiful coastline of Pembrokeshire and Carmarthenshire is easily accessible for day trips.
Perhaps the best time to stay is during May when the spring birds are at their most vocal.
Bluebells adorn our woods nearby and walking locally is at its best.
Without doubt what we enjoy most about the area is the sea including the Pembrokeshire coast, the island of Skomer, the wonderful beaches, the coastal walks and the
magnificent variety of birdlife.
