Castell Malgwyn Hotel
Located in an 18th century mansion in the countryside of West Wales, the hotel has almost a mile of river frontage and over 40 acres of woodland open to residents. Richard Fenton, visiting the house soon after its construction, described it as follows
"The house of Castle Maelgwn is an elegant modern building, affording a suite of handsome apartments and most commodious offices, and is pleasingly situated on a beautiful projecting slope,
lying between the navigable river Teivy on one side, and a retired pastoral stream that murmurs through a most romantic valley, diversified with rock and wood, on the other."
(A Historical Tour through Pembrokeshire, 1811.)
Little has changed since then, apart from the necessary modernisation to convert it into an extremely homely country hotel.
The old "Dining Room" to the right of the entrance hall is now the hotel Drawing Lounge. Large and comfortable, it still retains the atmosphere of the old mansion and is ideal for relaxing in during the day or after your evening meal.
Across the Hall from the Lounge, the old "Withdrawing Room", where the gentlemen took cigars and brandy after dinner, has been converted into a Lounge Bar,
where you can take your pre-prandial drinks before you move into the restaurant.
Still with its original Adams-style fireplace, the Bar looks out over the the Lily Gower croquet lawn towards the parkland.
In our restaurant, Head Chef, (Kevin Williams M.C.F.A. Craft Guild of Chefs London) has an active policy of trying to source ingredients locally.
Only if it is not grown nor made in the locality will he then go elsewhere. Kevin estimates that over 90% of the food we prepare comes from the British Isles,
and the majority of that is from Celtic Wales. None of the food we cook is Genetically Modified.
The ballroom is reached through its own foyer (above) and can very comfortably accommodate 150 persons.
It is regularly booked for wedding receptions, banquets and dinner-dances for residents, as well as conferences and meetings.
