hodesdon castle In and Around Conwy Taken together, the castle and town walls are the most impressive of all the fortresses built by Edward 1 to conquer Wales. They were built between 1283 and 1287 and are the finest and most complete example of a fortified town and castle in Britain. Plas Mawr is one of the finest surviving town houses of the Elizabethan era to be found in Britain and belonged to the influential Welsh merchant Robert Wynn. Aberconwy House is the oldest house in Conwy and dates from the 14th century.

The Conwy Suspension Bridge was built by Thomas Telford and opened in 1826 and has recently been restored. Conwy also has The Smallest House in Britain, a Butterfly Jungle, a teapot museum, RSPB Nature Reserve & art galleries, including the prestigious Royal Cambrian Academy. It also provides facilities for angling, boat trips, bowling, cycling, horse riding and pony trekking, sailing, tennis, and walking. As well as Conwy Golf Club, there are also two other first class courses close by in Llandudno.

Conwy is centrally positioned on the north coast of Wales on the A55 expressway. Snowdonia, the island of Anglesey and the Lleyn Peninsular are all within easy reach as are the resorts of Llandudno and Colwyn Bay and Chester ('England's walled city and gateway to Wales')
